On July 18, 1873, John Dailinger filed his original application for his pension for a disability due to his "gunshot wound in the left side, that passed out the breast, breaking several ribs." It states that he lives in Philadelphia and worked as a baker before service. George Ruck and Frederich Widmayer provide affidavits throughout John's entire pension process.
This Surgeon's Certificate states that John's condition at the time of original pension applcation was "one half incapacitated for earning his sustinence by manual labor from the cause stated." John weighs 144 pounds and "suffers from pluerontic adhesions, cutting pain with a slightly irritable heart."
On December 5, 1873, John's pension application is approved and he is granted $4/month.
On December 16, 1884, John filed an application for an increase of his pension saying he had an "increase of disability for which pension" He claims that his disability affects his left lung and prevents him from working as a baker.
This 1885 Surgeon's Certificate states that John thinks he has liver, lung and kidney disease, but instead really suffers from "neuralagic pains, irritable heart" and is under weight at 128 pounds with heart disease due to gunshot wound.
According to the 1888 Surgeon's Certificate, John's increase for pension was approved as he currently receives $12/month. This examination report lists John's weight at 105 pounds. He had pneumonia in 1887 and is "barely able to get up and about the rooms" at home. Doctors say he is "severly anemic, debilitated and emaciated" with an entire right lung breaking down.
On October 31, 1888, John is granted an increase of pension at a rate of $16 per month.
