Meet John Dailinger

This exhibit tells the story of John Dailinger, a Union soldier who served with the 29th New York Volunteers from 1861-1863.  John was one of many soldiers who wrote graffiti on the walls of the Blenheim House in Fairfax, Virginia.  Staff and volunteers from the Historic Blenheim Civil War Interpretive Center have identified 120 of the graffiti writers, and obtained copies of their military service and pension records from the National Archives, as well as conducting additional research.

This exhibit was assembled by Sheila Martin during a Digital History class taught by Dr. Stephen Robertson at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
